The Rich Sculptures of Adriaan de Villiers
by Rob Perrée, Amsterdam: December 2009
In all of the descriptions of his work, Adriaan de Villiers (Cape Town, 1984) names the Spanish architect, Gaudi, as one of his main sources of inspiration. He knows his work mainly through pictures though. When de Villiers was in the Netherlands recently with the Thami Mnyele artist-in-residence program in Amsterdam, he decided to go to Barcelona. The journey was for many reasons eye-opening. The wonderful creations of Gaudi surpassed his greatest expectations.
